"Individiua et indissolubilem." - National motto, c1650-1945.

"Medium autem virtutis." - National motto, 1945-present.

Nucleana is a relatively sizable and varied island nation located on an alternate earth, roughly located in the northern Atlantic ocean above the country of Great Britain. It's also the catch-all country that most of the-furry-railfan's (aka The Nuclear Kitsune's) various rubbish tank builds and other things are labeled under. Really likes a deep bluish color for all their vehicles.

Lore[]

Settled by those of Germanic and English descent in the early 17th century, Nucleana was primarily a coal and crude oil-producing country, with its vast snow-covered mountains and fields making prolonged farming difficult in much of the country. Dense forests on the largest of Nucleana's many land masses also allowed it a sizable logging industry, with many of the first home-developed motorized vehicles being various tracked steam-driven traction engines, for pulling the large logs to the sawmills along the southern coast.

The First Great War[]

At the start of the 20th century, the resources of Nucleana became the focus of both Great Britain and the German nation, with trade agreements deteriorating rapidly as the first great war loomed on the horizon. When the war began in early 1914, Nucleana closed its borders, and the population largely retreated into its industrialized heartlands, with the thick forests and treacherous mountain paths believed to be effective at slowing any invasion force to a crawl, and leave them to succumb to the harsh winters that plagued a large majority of the country. With threat of invasion from Great Britain, the Nucleana Royal Armored Vehicle Development Committee was founded, hoping to take advantage of combining their many readily-available tracked logging engines with weapons such as the Hiram Repeater machine rifle and the widely-used 4-pounder and 15-pounder avalanche guns. Rather unfortunately, the first attempts at combining a fully enclosed and armored steam traction engine with several pounds of cordite and gunpowder proved to be rather lethal yet informative, prompting the RAVDC to turn towards the internal combustion engine for all future vehicles.

The Interbellum and Winter War[]

The feared invasion never came, however, and by 1918, when the world was recovering from the first great war, the nation of Nucleana was left with the knowledge that it was not alone in its attempts to develop an armored vehicle for landfaring purposes. Information of the battlefields and tactics that defined the war led to the recreation of faux trenches of varying types in Nucleana's northern regions for training, and images of the various armored vehicles developed by other countries for the conflict largely influenced Nucleana's armored vehicle design in the intervening years before the second great war. Looking to better learn from others and improve their own designs, Nucleana also purchased several Renault FTs and one mostly intact Mark V tank from France.

During this time, the Royal Armored Corps was founded, and backing it the Royal Armored Corps Vehicle Development Committee, Nucleana's own think tank for developing new and improved weapons of war that would become the staple of years to come. Tools such as the 4- and 15-pounder avalanche guns were renamed to the Royal Ordinance Quick Firing 4-pounder AT Gun and ROQF 15-pounder Field Gun, respectively, with weapons such as the ROQF 6-pounder AT, 25-pounder Light Field Gun and 60-pounder Siege Howitzer being developed out of surplus weapons which were traded for in the years after the cease-fire. All were soon to find places in Nucleana's modest armed forces, and would come to show their effectiveness during the start of the Winter War, with Nucleana supplying Finland with several armored vehicles such as the Nucleana T-8 Infantry and Nucleana T-5 Cavalry light tanks.

The Second Great War[]

With the outbreak of the Second Great War, tensions were understandably high as Nucleana feared another threat of invasion from a foreign country, again due to their vast supplies of natural resources. Armored vehicle development carried on in the industrialized heartlands, though the designs were marred by Nucleana once again closing its borders and keeping itself somewhat distanced from knowledge of the advancements in armored vehicle technology. Many of the designs developed in Nucleana during this time still bore the interwar aesthetics of the tanks used in the first Great War, albeit with their technology largely improved in comparison, even including some of the first attempts at crude ceramic composite armor being made during this time. News as to what was occurring on the far-flung fronts of the war arrived primarily via radio, allowing the island nation at least some insight into the fact that this second Great War was developing far differently than the first.

The Atomic Age[]

With the abrupt end of hostilities in August of 1945, Nucleana once again reopened its borders, the first jarring news reaching its long-shut ears being in the form of images taken of massive oddly-shaped clouds, captioned as being of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the Empire of Japan. Armed with this knowledge of a vast, cruel, powerful new weapon developed by the United States, the minds of Nucleana pressed forth for discovering as much about this new bomb as they could - and, upon realizing that the dense metals excavated from her earliest coal mines were the very elements that allowed these powerful weapons to operate, the think tanks of Nucleana's Armed Forces retreated, starting to draw up plans and diagrams from whatever knowledge and information they could procure.

With her armored vehicles taking a back seat to this new development in warfare, the future rests uncertain for the island nation, staring down between the two new global superpowers and on the verge of a third Great War.

Armored Vehicles[]

The First Great War proved the validity of the tank concept to Nucleana, which wasted no time in developing several vehicles based upon photographs retrieved from many of the tank-faring nations in the world. Moreover, it's allied status with Finland in the Winter War resulted in it procuring several captured and rebuilt vehicles as well, supplementing gaps and giving inspiration to the RACVDC for new vehicle designs.

Water Craft[]

Being an island nation, Nucleana's uninterrupted coast and southern atolls, and proximity to Great Britain, called for a decent collection of naval vehicles. Though her non-participation in both World Wars meant that her ships never saw combat for the most part, they are still maintained and kept in a combat condition.

River Patrol Boat[]

Aircraft[]

The development of powered flight did not pass Nucleana by, as her islands made the creation of light aircraft capable of landing and taking off from the scattered atolls in the south very favorable. Moreover, the advent of both the traditional airship and the vacuum airship gave Nucleana many plans for aerial combat and support craft as well.
